Gray spatial solitons in nonlocal nonlinear media.
We study gray solitons in nonlocal nonlinear media and show that they are stable and can form bound states. We reveal that the gray soliton velocity depends on the nonlocality degree and that it can be drastically reduced in highly nonlocal media. This is in contrast with the case of local media, where the maximal velocity is dictated solely by the asymptotic soliton amplitude.
متن کاملNonparaxial dark solitons in optical Kerr media.
We show that the nonlinear equation that describes nonparaxial Kerr propagation, together with the already reported bright-soliton solutions, admits of (1 + 1)D dark-soliton solutions. Unlike their paraxial counterparts, dark solitons can be excited only if their asymptotic normalized intensity u2infinity is below 3/7; their width becomes constant when u2infinity approaches this value.
متن کاملBright and dark spatial solitons in non - Kerr media
An overview of the theory of self-guided optical beams, spatial optical solitons supported by non-Kerr non-linearities, is presented. This includes bright and dark solitons in optical media with intensity-dependent non-linear response as well as two-component solitary waves supported by parametric wave mixing in quadratic or cubic media. The properties of non-linear spatially localized waves ar...
متن کاملPolarized dark solitons in isotropic Kerr media
We characterize dark-type vector optical solitons of arbitrary polarization in isotropic, Kerr-type media by applying Hirota’s method to the integrable Manakov model with a defocusing nonlinearity. We find that nonuniformly polarized solitons comprise a rich solution family that can be divided into two categories: dark-dark and dark-bright vector solitons. We consider the propagation dynamics a...
متن کاملSpatial solitons in Kerr and Kerr-like media
This is a review paper of basic knowledge and recent advances in the area of spatial solitons in Kerr and Kerr-like media. We consider spatial bright and dark solitons, sol-itons in waveguide geometries, optical bullets, vortex solitons and, brie¯y, dissipative cases. In our treatment, we use a Hamiltonian approach when considering stability issues.
